Authentication Template

An Authentication template is a WhatsApp message template used only to send one-time passwords and verification codes. It has a fixed format around the code, usually with a one-tap copy button, and cannot carry any marketing content.

Authentication templates are locked down by Meta so they stay safe and predictable. The user must have opted in to receive them.

They are a popular, higher-converting alternative to SMS OTPs.
